Project Overview

The global unveiling of Spectre, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ first all-electric vehicle, was conceived as a high-end experiential event combining film, live performance, and immersive sound within a purpose-built venue at Goodwood HQ.

The Challenge

The event needed to introduce a major technological shift for the brand while maintaining Rolls-Royce’s sense of luxury, confidence, and restraint. Music had to support a highly controlled reveal moment, function reliably in a live environment, and translate the theme “Composing for the Future” into a clear emotional narrative.

My Role

I served as Musical Director, responsible for defining the musical language of the event, composing the original score, and overseeing its realisation across recorded and live performance elements.

Approach & Thinking

I developed a hybrid score combining orchestral writing with electronic elements, designed to reflect both craftsmanship and forward-looking innovation.
To reinforce the significance of the moment, I curated a collaboration with the London Contemporary Orchestra, ensuring the music could function both as a cinematic opening statement and as a live performance within the space.

The score was recorded at Empire Studios in London and mixed in Dolby Atmos, allowing precise control of spatial impact and emotional pacing within the custom-built venue. Additional sound design elements were integrated to support lighting, staging, and the physical presence of the car during the reveal.

Outcome

Across three invitation-only evenings, the London Contemporary Orchestra performed the score live for VIP audiences, delivering a consistent, emotionally focused experience that aligned with the brand’s identity while marking a clear step into a new era for Rolls-Royce.

Why This Matters

The project demonstrates an approach where music direction, composition, and live performance work together to support brand narrative, manage risk in a complex live environment, and deliver a coherent experience from concept through execution.
