SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT FORUM

Artipelag

Experiential music composition and live performance

Context
Scania’s fourth Sustainable Transport Forum brought together industry leaders to address the realities of climate change, combining keynote content with a strong narrative arc designed to inform, challenge, and inspire action.

Music played a central role in shaping the emotional tone of both the opening and closing moments of the forum.

Role
Composer — responsible for the musical score for the opening film and for shaping the musical presence within the live event.

Approach
I composed an original score for the opening film built around a solo cello, supported by layered cello parts and restrained electronic textures. The aim was to create a focused, human sound that could carry emotional weight without overstating the message.

I worked closely with cellist Clare O'Connell to capture the nuance and emotional depth required for the film, ensuring the music aligned with the forum’s themes of responsibility, urgency, and long-term thinking.

To bring the musical narrative full circle, Clare was invited to perform live during the final moments of the forum at Artipelag, allowing the music introduced in the film to reappear as a live, human presence in the space.

Outcome
The transition from scored film to live performance created a clear emotional through-line for the event. The closing performance provided a moment of reflection and resolve, leaving a strong and lasting impression on attendees.

Why It Matters
This project demonstrates how opening film music and live performance can be used together to frame complex subject matter, reinforce brand values, and create a coherent emotional journey within a high-level experiential event.
